Solid Rock Academy....Year 2!!

We've entered year two of homeschooling, and I have a Kindergartner and a 4th grader! For science, we have started out studying the human body. For history, we are going to study our home state of North Carolina. Silas is doing Math-U-See Gamma, and Stephen is doing some exercises in a Brain Quest K workbook. I found some good workbooks for Silas for grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, but we're off to a slow start on those so we have to get it in gear. We are also getting together with other homeschooling families once a month and doing some things with them. For September I am going to teach the six boys in the group about warfare in the Bible.

Summer Fun...

We had a lot of fun and did a lot of fun things this summer, but I didn't have my camera with me everytime! We were able to attend two homeschool group get-togethers, and the kids had a blast. There is a family who has 15 children, all adopted, that homeschools. They open up their property to other homeschool families on Fridays during the summer. They have a huge play structure, I missed getting a picture of it, but as you can see, it's a kids' paradise!

Silas about to hit the water!

Silas and his buddy Briley

Pool, lake, and Bouncy House!

Even though it was his first time in a kayak, Stephen rowed all over the lake...he looked like a pro!

We were also able to spend some time with friends from church. Dale and Freddy invited us and others over to swim in their pool. It is a salt water pool, and it did wonders for Sophie's skin!

Our crazy boys!!

This girl LOVES the water!!

Sophie, YOU are 4 months old!

You are now 15.1 lbs, which is in the 90%, 25 1/4 inches tall, which is in the 90-95%, and your head is 40cm, which is in the 25-50%. That's okay, because I make up for your little noggin' by putting big 'ole bows and flowers on your head!
You are wearing mostly 6 month size clothes, size 2 diapers, and you are drinking 6 ounces of formula every 3-4 hours. We just had to switch you to soy formula, which we are hoping will help with your ongoing eczema problems.
You just started rolling from your back to your tummy, but have not
figured out how to flip back!

You still sleep on your back mostly, but I did find you on your
side one  morning when I got up.

The Exersaucer is your favorite place to be, and you get a little violent
trying to get the balls inside of the spinning tumbler!

This is you right after getting dressed for church last Sunday morning!

This was my attempt at your 4 month photo session outside. The humidity
was so high, I was dripping sweat after 10 minutes, so I had to cut it short.

I couldn't get you to let your dress go, you kept putting it in your mouth!

Your monthly picture with Minnie Mouse!
This was it....we were done!

The swing is your resting place when you get tired of the Exersaucer....you're so cute when we put you in....
you look up at the lighted mobile and smile, waiting for us to turn it on!

Tweetsie Railroad, Boone NC

We took a quick, overnight trip to Tweetsie RR this past week. We got there in the afternoon and ate lunch at the Daniel Boone Inn. They serve you family style in bowls, and you pass them around the table. Stephen ate 2 chicken legs and some corn, then he had chocolate cake for dessert. The rest of us ate a little bit of everything: fried chicken, ham biscuits, country fried steak, corn, green beans, slaw, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits with cherry preserves....you get the picture, it was a lot of food!

Riding the Mouse Miners train!

I told them to "look sad"....this is what I got!
Sophie and I skipped this ride, but Scott and the boys were on this one
Three CRAZY boys!!

Silas rode the chairlift all by himself and loved it!

Both of the boys rode the cars many times!
We stopped by on the way home to see my Aunt Lois, my mom's sister. She lives in a town that is about an hour away, so we don't get her way often. I remember growing up and being at her house at least three times a week, she used to live 10 minutes from us.
